Improving carpark safety at Heathrow Airport
Heathrow Airport operator BAA, wanted it’s clients to experience stress free parking in all three parking areas and over 7,000 of it’s parking spaces. Offering a fully automated system, which indicated free spaces and ensuring a swift and efficient entry and exit for customers.
The Brief
Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport experiences significant traffic congestion, making efficient parking management essential. The primary objective is to assist customers in locating vacant parking spaces within a vast parking area while maintaining order and reducing congestion.
What We Did
We worked alongside the designer responsible for the monitoring technology behind the automated system, to develop a housing for the infra red magnetic sensor.
We successfully custom moulded and delivered over 7,000 polyurethane sensor housings for the main multi-story car park at Heathrow Airports Terminal 5. Developing the prototype to best fit the sensor technology and be robust enough to protect it.
The Impact
Stress-Free Parking
BAA’s primary objective was to provide stress-free parking for its clients. With the implementation of our fully automated system, customers can now quickly locate available parking spaces in all three parking areas. This feature alone has relieved a major source of stress for travelers, making their arrival and departure smoother.
Swift and Efficient Entry/Exit
Our contribution extended beyond just indicating free spaces. We optimised the entire process, ensuring swift and efficient entry and exit for customers. This improvement is crucial for the busy airport environment, where time is of the essence, and delays can lead to significant disruptions.
Customised Solution
Our collaboration with the designer of the monitoring technology allowed us to create a customised housing for the infrared magnetic sensor. This bespoke solution ensures that the sensor fits perfectly and provides the necessary protection. This level of customisation adds to the overall reliability and durability of the system.
Large-Scale Implementation
Delivering over 7,000 polyurethane sensor housings for the main multi-story car park at Terminal 5 showcases our capacity for large-scale production and deployment. This highlights our ability to handle substantial projects with precision and efficiency.
