Protecting Subsea Oil Pipelines with anti-ViV Strakes
Custom Moulded Polyurethane was asked to manufacture polyurethane vortex shredders to protect a subsea oil pipeline in compliance with strict anti-drop policies.
The Brief
To work with our client’s engineering team to design, develop, and manufacture anti-viv strakes to protect a subsea oil pipeline from fatigue or damage from current flow.
The strakes had to be developed to an advanced specification to ensure they would comply with oil rig anti-drop policies.
What We Did
To comply with a major offshore energy company’s strict anti-drop policy on oil rig platforms, we worked alongside our client’s design engineers to design, develop and supply polyurethane Anti ViV strakes to an advanced specification that will suppress vortex-induced vibrations (VIV).
The Impact
Each section of the anti-VIV strake system has been designed for quick and easy installation, giving our client the option to install either onshore or offshore.
By manipulating the current flow around the pipelines the anti-VIV stakes reduce damage-inducing vibrations, protecting the pipelines from costly repairs or replacement.
